Well let the 2019 Golf season get underway with tomorrows Sentry Tournament of Champions. I will not say I am a gambling man, I will also not say I am not a gambling man but here is my preview for this weekends event. I will be trying to do these throughout the season as time permits but unfortunately with real life responsibilities and a job and all that other bullshit before I know it, it is Thursday and the tournament is underway. If you lose your money, your house, your car or your wife do not be mad at me, and maybe Thank me for the wife part as now you can play more golf.
This is a star studded field and would be great if Tiger was playing but he will be opening up his schedule in a few weeks at the Farmers.
Sleeper Pick: Cameron Champ 20:1
Cameron who won the Sanderson Farms tournament last year is an absolute stud and hits the ball a mile. Yes we all can say that all these guys hit it a mile but he legit does, and with the crazy terrain that Kapalua offers his balls can roll quite a ways leaving him wedges in hands and the ability to attack many pins throughout the tournament.
Cam is 1st on the tour in Driving distance at just over 328 yards and 2nd on the tour in Birdies per round with almost 6. Given that, coupled with a small field and I think Cam can pull this out.
The Safe bet: Justin Thomas 8:1
I hate betting the favorite and I was not impressed the DJ down the stretch and for that reason I like Justin with the safe play here. I do not need to go into numbers or stats or anything crazy here. Justin can just flat out play and will be in contention come sunday.
My Pick: Bryson Dechambeau 12:1
I am excited to see how Bryson plays this weekend the new rules and he has said that on most short putts he will be leaving the flag in and it is bound to be weird but none the less Bryson is steady and good and given the small lay off he should be able to find what little he lost towards the end of last year to let the Fed-Ex cup escape his grasp but I think he is due to come out gunning out of the gate in 19 and it starts in Hawaii.
It is crazy that Bubba is 30:1 here, also a great value play.
